Kevin Durant Dedicates the 2012 Season to Jeff Green

While in Boston earlier this week, The Oklahoman asked KD about Jeff Green, who is missing the season after undergoing heart surgery to repair an aortic aneurysm. Here’s what KD had to say about his friend and former teammate:

“I dedicate the season to him. Jeff is a positive person. I learned so much from him. No matter what, he stays positive through the toughest times. He’s still smiling and laughing and enjoying himself. It’s tough to go through what he went through, and I pray for him every single day. But he knows that he’s going to get back better and stronger. I can’t wait for that day. I know he can’t wait.”

Jeff and KD have been friends since they were teenagers growing up in the D.C. area. They entered the league together in 2007, playing for the Seattle Supersonics before the team moved to OKC, where they played two and a half seasons together. Jeff was traded to the Celtics last year as part of the Kendrick Perkins deal.

Keep Jeff in your thoughts and Prayers.

In NYC For USAB Training Camp and the World Basketball Festival

kdlabel

What’s good everybody? I’m out here in New York City for another week of training camp with USA Basketball before the World Championship in Turkey later this month. I took a train into the city from D.C. last night, so I’m ready to go.

This is going to be a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to competing. I never had a chance to compete for a gold medal before and that’s why I’m going to go out there and play my heart out and have fun. This will be a good little warm-up before going into the regular season, too, so we’re all excited about representing our country as well.

The USA coaching staff actually sent us home from Las Vegas with a FIBA regulation basketball to practice with and I’ve been working out with it every day these last couple of weeks. I’m just trying to get more comfortable with it since it’s a different basketball than what we have in the NBA. The FIBA ball is just bouncier, more slippery and it doesn’t have as much grip as an NBA ball. It’s not what I’m used to. And it’s a little lighter as well. A few more days and hopefully I’ll be good.

I’ve been prepping for the week by working out at home, mostly with Jeff Green and Corey Brewer. We’ve been having some good workouts and they’ve definitely gotten me a lot better these last couple of weeks heading into training camp.

I’m sure you all know I’ll be out here with some of my Thunder family. Me, Jeff and Russell are trying to make the team that will head overseas in a week. We just want to go out there and try to help contribute. It would be cool to see all three of us out there representing the U.S. but we’re just going to play our hardest and by the end of the week, whatever happens, happens. Those guys are my brothers and it would be great to represent out country together. We’ll see what happens.

I’m going to try to get a few more blogs up this week in NYC. We’ll have a lot going on from practices to the World Basketball Festival, so stay tuned!

KD on the Cover of SLAM Magazine for the Second Time this Season

The folks over at SLAM Magazine chose Kevin and two of his Thunder teammates (Russell Westbrook and Jeff Green) to grace the cover of this month’s SLAM Magazine.

Here’s insight from SLAM Big Bossman, Lang Whitaker on why they picked the three young up and coming players to be on the cover:

Picking Oklahoma City from the West was a no-brainer. Sure they’re young and talented and all that, but what they’ve accomplished in just two years is incredible. Anyone remember that it was just a little over a year ago that they started out 1-12? I think everyone recognized they were a talented team, led by probably the most talented young player in the NBA, but now they’re not only a Playoff team out West, they’re three games out of first in their division and on pace to win 50.

Our main man Nima Zarrabi spent time with the Thunder when they were out in Cali a couple of weeks ago, and he wrote a great story that captures not only how well the Thunder players all get along, but also just how well the franchise is positioned going forward.

Support the Thunder and pick up your copy of this month’s SLAM Magazine today!

KD Assists a Local OKC Family

This season, Thunder players James Harden, Jeff Green and Thabo Sefolosha treated local families in need to food shopping sprees and gift cards as part of an ongoing Thunder initiative in partnership with Homeland Stores. Thunder forward Kevin Durant joined his teammates’ efforts this month by taking a 25-year-old single woman and sole caretaker of her six nieces and nephews, ages 7 months to 7 years, on a Homeland shopping spree. Durant also provided the family with a $500 gift card for future grocery purchases.

In an effort to support Oklahoma City residents experiencing financial hardship, the deserving families are selected with the help of the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma and the Salvation Army of Oklahoma.

My Thoughts on the Movie “The Crazies”

kdlabel

What’s good everyone? Just checking in to tell you about my trip to the movies on Saturday night. Some of my teammates and I went to check out the new horror movie, “The Crazies,” and I just wanted to give you my two cents on it.

It was kind of like a new-age zombie movie about a disease taking over a town and taking over most of the people. Only a couple of people got out alive, and I think an army quarantined the whole city and shut off the highways. It was intense – a lot of blood. It was cool how it ended, but I won’t spoil it for you.

I usually don’t watch scary movies by myself. I usually watch them with a friend or a teammate or someone. I saw this one with James, Jeff and Eric. We just went to the theater at a local mall and since it was a Saturday night it was real crowded. Obviously, we were some of the tallest people there so they were asking if we played ball. We just sat in the middle back row so we could see everything. But as far as scary movies go, sometimes you just want to see something intense, and I get that feeling watching scary movies. That’s how I felt yesterday. It was definitely something I would recommend for people to go see.

If you saw it, or if you have any other good movies to recommend, let me know.

Watching My Horns in Stillwater

kdlabel

What’s going on everybody? Just checking in to tell you about my trip to Stillwater on Monday night to see my Texas Longhorns take on – and beat – Oklahoma State. It ended up being a great game and ESPN was even there.

I went to the game with my friends from home plus Russell Westbrook, Kyle Weaver, Jeff Green, James Harden and D.J. White. I just wanted to support my guys. It was a good game, so I’m happy I went. It was cool just to see them. They’re people I really love and really care for, and it was especially good to see them do so well.

I’m glad I got to talk to them and see them in person, too. I got there right before tip-off so I saw them at halftime and after the game. I talked to Coach Barnes, asked him how he was doing and he said he was proud of me and just told me to continue to work. I really miss seeing those guys since I was there the whole summer and I’m looking forward to going back down there this summer.

As far as the atmosphere went, the fans were great and the student section was funny. I miss college a lot. I really, really miss it. Even though I was in OSU territory, no one really gave me a hard time. They really were just like, ‘hey how are you doing? Remember the game you played here a couple years back when it went to triple-overtime?’ It was just reminiscing. It was cool to have just friendly competition between myself and some Oklahoma State fans. Like I said, I was happy I went and hopefully I’ll go to more games in the future.

Texas was No. 1 but they lost three out of the last five I think. But they’ve been playing well. Every team goes through a spurt where they lose a couple of games here and there. That happens and they go through that every year. I think they’ll be alright. They’ve got a lot of talent on that team. They’re deep. I was hoping to see them this weekend at OU but we’ll be in San Francisco. So I’m happy I saw them. Seeing them once was better than not seeing them at all.

So what do you guys think of the college basketball season so far? Surprise teams or players, favorites to watch? Anyone a Longhorns fan? Let me know in the comments section.

We play the Hornets tonight in New Orleans. Make sure to send a prayer out for my bro Chris Paul. He injured his knee and I just want to see him healthy and back on the court as soon as possible.

Talk to you soon.

Thinking about Thanksgiving

kdlabel

What’s up everybody? Thanksgiving is only a few hours away and I’m ready to eat, spend time with friends and family and just chill.

Tomorrow will be about friends, family, food and even some basketball. I’m just going to be here in Oklahoma City enjoying the off day with some of my teammates and brothers. That’s about it. Same thing as last year. I’ll enjoy a good meal with my teammates and get ready for my game on Friday. I’ll probably go to the gym tomorrow, lift some weights, get some shots in and then enjoy the rest of my day off.

Russell said he’ll come through and I’ll go over James’ house. I’ll just move over from James, Jeff and Russell’s house throughout the day. It’ll be fun.

Growing up, Thanksgiving for me was having all my family be at my Aunt’s house. All the kids, there was about 20 of us, We’d play football in the front yard and wait for the food to be cooked. Either the Cowboys or Redskins would play and we’d watch that. Thanksgiving was always big in our family.

As far as favorite Thanksgiving Day foods go, my Aunt used to cook this macaroni and cheese. It was unbelievable. Different than anything I’ve ever had before. I don’t know how to describe It except that it was extra cheesy.

Oh yeah, and about those Redskins. I know they’ve had a tough season, but they’re still my team. They had a hard loss against the Cowboys on Sunday but we had a good win against Denver the week before so hopefully we can still build off of that.

And even though the ‘Skins won’t be playing tomorrow, it’s always fun watching football on Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Talk to you soon.

About the Broingtons

kdlabel

What’s good fans? Thanks for all of the great responses to my first blog post. I appreciate the love.

We’re back in OKC today after a good win in Utah last night. It was a good win against a tough, physical Utah team. Great to head into the Thanksgiving Holiday on a good note. And yes, Andrei Kirilenko did dunk on me. Everybody gets dunked on at some point in the NBA. It happens. LOL.

If you follow me on Twitter you know about the new hot music group I’m a part of called the Broingtongs. The Broingtons are me, Jeff and James. We remake music videos. And we’ve got featured guests coming in by Russ and D.J. White.

It’s a group we made up on the fly. We try to make videos of whatever songs we love listening to. Here’s a look at the first video we did a couple of weeks back. It’s a cover of “Say Ahh” by Trey Songz.

We actually sang over top of “Say Ahh’’, but I cut the volume down on our part and put the words over the top of ours to mash it. It’s kind of like I did my editing part. You know I went to school for editing. But we’re just having fun. It was more my idea. We were in Houston when we first did it. It was pretty cool.

Here’s are latest video…”Transform Ya”. Check it out:

Thanks for checking out my second blog post. I’ll be back with another post later this week. Happy Thanksgiving!

Welcome to My Blog!

kdlabel

What’s good fans? Welcome to my personal blog. This is my first blog post! I’m going to keep you guys updated on what’s going on with me on and off the court, so enjoy and keep coming back.

I am a big fan of Twitter, Facebook and other social media. It’s a lot of fun being social with everybody who is a basketball fan, who loves to watch us play and loves to watch me play. That’s why I do this. It’s pretty cool just to meet some of the people I’ve met so far on Twitter and Facebook. There’s just a lot of great basketball fans who respect the game and really know me as a player.

43667248I’ve already given away some shoes and Nike care packages on Twitter to fans that answered trivia questions about me, and that was a lot of fun. It’s just something I wanted to do…I was in a giving mood, and it’s always good to give back to the fans.

Right now we’re on another road trip. We just played Kobe and the Lakers on Sunday (Tough loss!). Now we’re in Utah for a game against the Jazz on Tuesday.

We’ve been on the road a lot this season, which has been one of our first tests – how to get through long road trips. We’ve already played in San Antonio, Sacramento, L.A., Miami and Orlando.

Our last trip was very rewarding for us. There were some ups and downs on the trip, but we learned a lot. We learned how to handle six games in nine nights. Remember, we’re all still young guys learning how to go through that. We won a couple, we lost a couple. It was a good learning experience.

For those who want to know what I like to do on road trips, I spend most of my time listening to a lot of music, watching a lot of movies and just playing video games. I’m kind of basic. I don’t go really go out too much. I go to the malls here and there, but most of the time I play music, listen to music, make my own music and watch TV.

thumb.phpBut actually when we were in Miami, me and the guys went to a restaurant there called Prime 112 and they had a dessert there called fried Oreos – one of the best dishes I’ve ever had. It was very, very good. If you’ve ever had them, you know exactly what I’m talking about. Hopefully I’ll go back down there to get some more of those.

When we’re on the road I usually go out to eat wherever the guys want to go. We usually just go to the mall or go to the movies, so we just pick a place that’s close by. We never plan out where we’re going to eat. If we see a place that we like we’ll just go there. I like to eat a lot of pastas, like from the Cheesecake Factory. We go there a lot. Actually, I think that’s a main place we go to on every road trip.

That place is so good, we just can’t stay away. The strawberry lemonade, the stuffed tortillas…Me and Russ always get that.

Well, that’s it for now. I hope this lets you in on a little bit about me. I’ll have another post for you later this week.
