My Giving Tree Event
What’s going on everyone?
Man, what a busy last couple of days for me and my teammates. I’m sure you saw our game against the Denver Nuggets on Monday night. We lost that game but I know we’ll go back to work and bounce back.
Yesterday was technically an off day for the team, but I still had lots to do. Last night was my Giving Tree, which I provided for local families so they could have a Christmas. Some families were homeless. I just wanted to give them a Christmas because it’s the time of the year where it’s important to give back.
We held the event inside the CityScape at the Penn Square Mall. On the Christmas tree we had ornaments that had Christmas wishes for families from two nonprofit agencies, Sunbeam Family Services and Positive Tomorrows. By the end of the night, the tree was gone and more than 100 gifts were purchased for the children. That was a great feeling.
I also helped a family that went through a tragedy a couple of months ago. I took them shopping at the Penn Square Mall and I felt good doing it. I just got them some things that they needed for the winter and really whatever they wanted. It was a lot of fun. I got to know the family. I want to do more than shop with the family. I want to really get to know them. There were three brothers and a grandmother. I’d like to take them under my wing and be there for them. Of course with the kids, we went into Game Stop and got them some games for their Xbox. We went to Champs, to Finish Line to get them some shoes and clothes and the grandma wanted to get them some church clothes so we went to Dillards as well.
That’s what this is all about. It’s the season of giving. I just wanted to provide people with things that’s going to help them out, especially the less fortunate. I just want to thank everybody that came out and helped me with this.
Merry Christmas!
