Talking College Hoops

kdlabel

What’s going on everyone? It’s been a crazy week for me after All-Star Weekend, the All-Star Game and getting right back in the grind of the NBA season. We had a good win against the Clippers on Tuesday, but then came up a bit short in the final minutes against the Spurs last night. We had some good looks at the end of the game last night, but the ball just didn’t bounce our way.

Enough NBA talk for now. Let’s talk college hoops for a little bit.

Y’all know I’m a Texas Longhorn all the way! As usual, I’ve been keeping a close eye on my boys this season. I know they had a tough loss to Nebraska over the weekend but other than that they’re playing unbelievable. Their defense is Grade A. They’re doing everything they need to be doing right now. That’s what great teams do. Hopefully they’ll make it far. I’m really pulling for them and they’ve got to keep pushing.

As far as other teams go, I’m actually a really big Duke fan. Playing for Coach K this summer really put in perspective what type of coach he is, what type of team he has. I’m a big fan of Duke and I’ve been trying to watch every game.

One of my childhood friends is Duke Guard, Nolan Smith. I’ve known him since I was 9, 10 years old, when we first started playing against each other. He’s having a phenomenal type of year! A Player of the Year type of year, First Team All-American type of year…so he really deserves a lot of credit. I think a lot of people are forgetting about him with all these young freshmen coming in. But Nolan’s having a phenomenal year and hopefully he’s able to cap off a great season.

I know Jimmer Fredette of BYU is having a heck of a season, too, and I actually know him a bit as well. This past summer he was at my camp and also played with the Select squad against the U.S.A. team and he held his own, so hopefully he has a great season as well.

So who do you all like in college hoops right now? Who’s your early favorite heading into the Tournament? Let me know in the comments section.

My New Teammate Eric Maynor

kdlabel

What’s good everyone? We had a good win at home last night against the Bobcats. We did what we were supposed to do on our home court, now it’s time to take get back to work on the road.

I’m sure you all heard about the newest member of the Thunder family, rookie guard Eric Maynor, who we got in a trade with the Utah Jazz on Tuesday.

I know Eric a little bit. One of my close friends back at home played with him at VCU and I got to know him through him. He’s pretty cool.

This is my first time playing with him, though. I’ve watched him play when he was in college. Of course, everyone knows him from putting Duke out of the NCAA Tournament in the first round a couple of years back and hitting that big shot. He’s got a reputation as a big-game player and I’m glad he’s on our team now.

The circumstances that he came in with, catching three planes and getting traded as a rookie after 20 games, it was tough. He came in and controlled the game for us and got the ball to people in good spots and if we would have made more shots for him he maybe would have had nine or 10 assists. He played well and I know once his feet get under him and he becomes more comfortable with our offense, he’s going to excel. We’re glad to have another guy that we can depend on to backup Russell. He’s a scorer but he knows in this league that he has to defend and distribute the basketball. But he can score when we need him to, and he’s versatile in his game. He gives us a different dimension to our offense. Him and Russell are going to be phenomenal for us.

Well, that’s it for now. Did everyone get what they wanted for Christmas?
