This past weekend, KD launched his “find my backpack” campaign with Nike Basketball. Throughout the season, KD and Nike Basketball will be dropping KD backpacks at markets across the country. When KD announces a drop off point, the first person to find the backpack and follow the attached instructions gets to keep the contents of the backpack and have a pair of one of the limited edition Nike Zoom KD IV colorways (Nerfs, Coppers, etc) sent their way.

The first drop was in New York city, and the winner of the contest was @msilber29. He gets to keep the KD backpack as well as the Nike Basketball Never Stops T-Shirt and Skullcandy Headphones found in the backpack. He’ll also have a pair of Nike Zoom KD IV ‘Nerf’ colorway sent his way.

KD scored 21 points on 5 shots (13/14 from the line) in a 106-92 victory over the Dallas Mavericks in the Thunder’s preseason opener. The Mavs played without Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Kidd. The Thunder play the Mavericks in their final preseason game on Tuesday night in Oklahoma City.

This weekend, KD’s alma mater, the University of Texas, took the floor against the Temple Owls sporting the limited Nike Zoom KD IV ‘Nerf’ colorway. The Longhorns came up victorious against the Owls, winning 77-65. Maybe the Longhorns will stick with the KD IV the rest of the season?

While the Zoom KD IV has seemingly stolen the signature spotlight from the rest of Nike Basketball’s marquee athletes this fall, most of that attention can be directly attributed to the “Nerf” themed version launching today.

As we saw all summer long on the charity and exhibition game circuit, it was hard to find a locked out NBA player showing more passion for the game of basketball than Kevin Durant, and Nike Basketball is showcasing KD’s youthful love of the sport in what is easily the most hyped colorway in his signature line’s young history. Just a few weeks ago, they were even voted the most anticipated model of the entire season. With an aggressive concord purple and bright crimson base, the story most certainly also goes well beyond just the sneaker, as one of the brand’s most evolved boxes makes its way to retail. The damn thing turns into a Nerf hoop itself.

Well after the Thunder players and the families they were shopping with left Target on Tuesday, balloons from the team’s Holiday Assist event still floated around on the backs of shopping carts to go home with other guests.

But that is just a drop in the bucket of the long-lasting effects the team shopping spree will have on families throughout the community.

Ten families, all part of Sunbeam Family Services’ Grandparents Raising Grandchildren program, each had $1,000 to spend at the northwest Oklahoma City store to make their holiday wishes come true. And they each had some help spending it.

While Thunder Girls shopped with the grandparents, Thunder players took the children on a shopping spree like they never imagined.

This is the fourth year the Thunder has put on this event, and it has become a favorite holiday tradition for staff and players alike.
