Having Fun at my Basketball Camps

kdlabel

What’s good everyone? I’m in the middle of running my basketball camp back here in Oklahoma City and these little kids are keeping me busy!

I got to do a little crowd pleasing the other day when I hit a half court shot over my shoulder. Yesterday, I hit another one, but it was just a regular half court shot. Honestly, I haven’t had much luck with half court shots in the past, so these were pretty sweet. Hey, I’m trying to give these kids a show and they wanted to see something spectacular. The shot was on point and it brought a smile to my face when they all went nuts.

This is the second year I’m holding a camp and to be honest I’m getting more comfortable with kids as the years go on. Of course I accomplished a little bit more in the last year so more kids want to come out. I’m just excited to have this opportunity to interact with kids. I love it. It’s always fun to come in here and teach them about the game and also just have a good time with them. Sometimes I’ll take a seat at half court, grab a microphone and be the MC, giving commentary on some of the scrimmages going on. And every now and then a kid will just pull up a chair and chill with me.

But some of these kids say some crazy things, man! Today some kid asked me why we didn’t trade Eric Maynor for the 10th pick in the draft. I was like, man these little kids watch a lot of TV! That was pretty funny to me.

I’ve got to give thanks to Pro Camps, who helped put my camp together, and to Heritage Hall High School for letting me have it here. That high school is nice!

I’ve been going from one camp to another this week. I came to Oklahoma City straight from the Nike Skills Camp in Chicago, which featured some of the best high school and college players in the country. I got a chance to share some of my knowledge with them and I really got after it on the court, too. I just wanted to get better and I know those guys make me better. But overall it was cool to meet some of the top high school kids who are going to be the next tier of guys who come into the league. There was a lot of talent there.

Well, today is the last day of my camp, so check my blog this weekend for a another post.

THUNDER UP!

I will be starting Volleyball camps and it is the kids that keeps you going. It's great to see that you give your time and expertise to these kids which is valuable knowledge. Good luck the rest of the summer.

KD, you are a true role model. It's rare to see a player with so much talent on the court, loyalty in the locker room and humility off the court. I wish you only the best. Sky's the limit, man.

    Hook 'em!

That's funny because kids do watch a lot of TV these days. More than our generation did. We were too busy playing outside somewhere. How did you respond to that? Lol!! It's great that they get to interact with you because I am sure they look up to you and will probably remember the things you said and the time they spent with you for the rest of their lives. I love working with kids they are so much fun.

We have all heard that Kevin Durant wants to stay with he OKC Thunder long term. He is thouught to sign an extention before next weekend. He is obviously worth a max contract, we all know there. To be honest there are probably only a few players that are worth this max contract…but there is no doubt that Durant is one of them. He is a superstar and still rising. But much more than basketball he makes it a point that his team is very close and that team chemisty in at its top. He is a perfect leader and teammate. He also is a humanitarian and really in to community work…this link explains more.

Right now Durant is working on a number community service projects, including a basketball camp more kids. He has made it a point to be a great role model and teach these kids to not be greedy and play for the love of he game. He claimed. “I am still a kid myself.”

Durant also has refused to talk to press about his demands of his contract. Calmly saying that he wants to stay in OKC. Money has never been mentioned..

We also all know that Durant loves his teammates, they are all young and rising stars, and they will also be up for more money, He wants o keep this team chemisty together.

Now, this has never happened before for a player that is of Durants Caliber. But, I beleive it would be a genuwine noble action if Durant was to leave some money on the table in order to sign other players on his team. And with Durants known humbleness and personality. I could really see him doing this, accepting less money than he is worth. Maybe a 5 year $60mil contract instead of his deserved 5 year $85 mil.

I know that this would influence other players on the team to do the same (Russell Westbrook, Jeff Green, James Harden, Serge Ibaka). And this young team could rise as champions together…

    Thoughts Kevin?
