Looking back at my all-star debut

kdlabel

What’s going on everyone? Well, I’m finally back in Oklahoma City after a long weekend in Dallas. And man, it’s good to be back with my teammates. We went through a practice on Monday night and are getting right back into the swing of things tomorrow against the Dallas Mavericks.

I thought I’d just talk about what it was like playing in my first All-Star Game before we play Tuesday night. Really, it all sank in once I put my jersey on and warm-ups. Running out of that tunnel, it happened so quickly, first off. It felt like a dream to me. There were so many people there to watch the game and also so many people who gave me a great ovation.

That was something I really didn’t realize until somebody told me. I was caught up in the moment. But I’m glad all the fans supported me. Plus, it was a good game. It was a fun game and I had a blast running up and down the court with these guys and hopefully I can play in more All-Star Games.

Playing alongside all these stars was a little different for me. I was playing with a lot of guys who were the main options on their teams and it was kind of different for me to come off the bench, too. It was a new experience and like I said hopefully I come back.

And as far as that record crowd at the Cowboys Stadium, I’m just happy I was a part of some history. Again, the crowd was unbelievable. It was a lot to watch a basketball game and over 100,000 is something you wouldn’t even think about. I thought it would be around 80,000. But the crowd just showed how much our game has grown and how much the players have changed the look of the All-Star Game because it was a good game. It was like a real game. They don’t come out here and play around. They were serious trying to win.

Someone asked me if any player had left a lasting impression on me, and I really couldn’t come up with just one. Just being around these guys and seeing how they act and everyone was cool, just welcoming me in like I’ve been here for the last 10 years. I felt right at home, like I belonged.

And just as important to me was seeing some of my Thunder teammates throughout the weekend. That support system is always there from our players. They supported me and congratulated me and I just want to thank them so much.

Well, hopefully you all will continue to support us down the stretch of this season. I also want to know what you thought of the All-Star Game, so hit me up in my comments section. Talk to you soon!

KD, you are doing a better job than anyone could imagine, perhaps you can influence the team to better jerseys and logos.

Anyway stay humble, and keep doing what you're doing, because it's great to see someone succeed at the level you are in such a short period.

I thought the game was awesome! And u played like u do in all of ur games Kev. And that is amazing. I believe I heard Lebron James say in the past that he really respects your game so I am sure he was glad to see u in the All Star game. I am a Cavs fan but I am a fan of the game also so ur on my list of top 5!

  • tron_solo

It is great that you had a great time in the all-star weekend! It is pretty crazy having 100,000 + crowd looking down in the Crowboy Stadium. I felt crazy even I am just watching at home (I had a great time too).

I really hope that you will be appear in more all-star games, but more importantly, win more games for the Thunder, and achieve more goals alongside with your team-mate

hey Kevin nice job in the game. I like the way you play not just the basketball part but also the way you are humble and how you work so hard and you are my favorite player. I know it sometimes might get difficult to stay humble with so much praises and with being in the all-star being one of the best players but it is fun to have more challenges.
Hope everything keeps going well for you.

  • ujangapri

I see what you did there, KD. I hope you'll keep getting better, stay humble and stay focus. Your game is more than awesome.

Great buzzer at the 3rd quarter btw.

  • DoomDaam

Seriously Kevin, you did a great job! I really enjoyed the game, and seeing you playing, felt so good. You are my 2nd favourite player, the first one is Dwyane Wade, I love both of you. Everytime i see you play, I just fell like you are growning so much, everytime you get better, and i believe that in min. 5 years, you will be great as Kobe and LeBron. You got a talent that most of the players doesn't have, and you should be really thankful, and of course i know you are. Everytime I hear the spectators talk, i hear them talk about, you and you becoming a superstar in no time!

Just do your thing, and do what you gotta do! I wish you luck in todays game! Go hit em KD!!

What an awesome post. You truly are special and will be on the All-Star team for many years. Keep up the great work and Hook 'em Horns!

hey KD, I'm one of your biggest fans and read all your blogs.. I'm a Thunder season ticket holder and am so proud of you, Russell the Hustle, and James Harden.. All three of you represented the Thunder so well at the All Star game, and the Thunder really seemed to be the talk of the town.. Thanks so much for always being such a classy guy and playing the game the right way.. You have high character and are really becoming a big role model to the kids (and adults!) in OKC.. I wish I could've come down to Dallas and been there to support you in person during the HORSE competition and the All Star game, but I was cheering you on in my living room.. Looking forward to the rest of the season and (hopefully) the playoffs!

  • e_pete

You make everything look so easy….draining 3's against Rondo for the HORSE challenge. I think you should go for a sweep one of these years…dunk contest, 3 point challenge, and All Star MVP. D Wade has always been my favorite player but you are a very close 2nd now. If you keep doing what you're doing and you continue to work on your defense you will be winning multiple league MVP's and should have a good chance at winning championships! Keep up the good work Kevin…I just wish they showed some more Thunder games.

Thanks for recounting your experience. It must have almost been surreal to play in front of 100K. Like you said, being caught up in the moment you didn't even realize it.

Keep up the great work Kevin.

Kevin, I look forward to watching you play for many, many years to come!!! You have amazing potential.

Can you please consider doing the slam dunk contest next year? This year's contest was a bit disappointing. I know you are not a flashy guy but your dunks on Sunday were more spectacular than what we saw in the dunk contest.
Loved the suit for the rookie/soph game.

Did you get anyone to give you a pair if their shoes to add to your collection?

  • Thomas30

It was a good game, especially when the game was decided in the last second! But I want you to take the shot. Anyway, I hope you had fun. But back to the games that count. As a Thunder fan, there are 2 things you want to remember as you finish your season: take 1 game at a time, and win the next game. I will be rooting for you!

KD you were awesome and definitely one of my favorite players in the All Star Game and in the league. You truly have real talent, your humble, and I can see that you have a passion for what you do. Congratulations on the H.O.R.S.E. contest you deserve it and good luck to you and your team on all your games for the season and just continue to stay focus and you will be successful!

  • Hudson
