My Game Day Routine

kdlabel

What’s good everyone? Just figured I’d check in and see what’s going on with everyone. We just wrapped up a four-game home stand and are in Dallas for a game against the Mavs tonight. I’m sure you guys all saw our tough loss against the Spurs on Wednesday night. We don’t like to take moral victories, but I’m proud of how we bounced back from a bad start and made it a game.

Anyhow, since I practically live at the arena during the season, whether it’s at the Ford Center or on the road, I figured I’d let you guys in on my game day routine. I really don’t have any rituals, but I guess you can say there’s a routine to it.

It really starts after our team’s morning shoot around. Once I come home I have to play my brother and friends in NBA Live or NBA 2K on the XBox. I’ve got to play one game of that. That’s always fun and that’s one thing I have to do on game days.

I don’t ever take naps on game days because any time I used to I’d just get sluggish. I like to get to the arena nice and early to get a workout in. I like to put up a bunch of different shots…slashing shots, curls, three-pointers. Stuff I do in the game I like to work on beforehand.

After that I always take a seat on our bench for a few minutes and that’s when I’m just chilling out. I might know some people on other teams. Like when the Bobcats came to town last month that’s when I had a chance to catch up with one of my good friends D.J. Augustin, who I played with at Texas. I usually wait for fans to get into the arena so I can sign some autographs for them. I love to sign stuff for the people who come out to see us. I’m just doing them a favor because they’re doing one for us as well.

After that, I head back to our new locker room, take a seat at my stall and read the scouting report. I ALWAYS read the scouting report. Then I’ll just listen to my music and chill out, get in my little mode I guess. I listen to a lot of R&B, a lot of rap, but mostly R&B. Then an hour before game time, me and some of my teammates head to the team chapel. I have to do chapel before every game, no matter where we’re playing.

And finally, I do have a little ritual once I’m on the court. Right after player introductions, when everyone’s taking the court for the opening tip, I go straight to the scorer’s table, where I’ll untie tie my shoes. I do that before every game and right after halftime. I really don’t know why I do it, but it’s become a habit.

Then, it’s game time.

Do you all have daily routines you have to follow before school and work? Let me know in the comments section, and be sure to check us out tonight against the Mavs.

You should play NBA 2K10 instead :)

Naw but all seriousness, keep up the work KD, I wanna see you have a bright future. Although I am a Laker fan, I gotta give you all the respect I can give you, you deserve it. Hard worker, no ego, very humble and a damn good ball player. Its a shame I live in Australia though, I wouldve showed up to all the Laker-Thunder games and go early to see you do your routine and get your autograph. Keep up the work KD, I look up to you as a hero and as a role model. You inspire me to be a better ball player.

I like to get at least 3 miles in every morning. I enjoy running in marathons and take pride in my shape. Then I shower and get ready for class or work. I put work as my first priority but probably should make school my #1 priority. I love watching y'all play and look forward to watching the game tonight at the Thunder Watch Party at Buffalo Wild Wings. Thanks for all the fun videos, tweets, and blogs. This is a great team to follow and be apart of my home town. Go Thunder! I love it that y'all go to chapel you guys are a great example for young players and people to follow! Thank you for being an inspiration.

I play in the asian league that used to be at Performance Sports Center Sunday evenings before you guys bought it as a practice facility lol. Its all good I'm glad yal are here and we jumoved down the street to Transformation. But anyways I always like showin up before hand practicing all those weird shots lol. I always try to show up early because coach expected alot out of me. I didnt know why but I understand now that every team needs a leader like how you are for the Thunder. And we are with you every step of the way!

I would post my routine but they are not too interesting compared to you.. but wanted to say thanks for signing the KD2 for my wife before the crowd got in the other day. that really made her day. she is having the pic framed and a little thunder setup somewhere.. anyway, nice to see you seem to be so humble and be so rich.. glad to see money doesn't make everyone arrogant. you are all a nice bunch of guys.. hope you hang around a while…

as first in office each day, I make the coffee, then open Tweetdeck and check on post by Longhorn nation before starting the work day. I get pumped everytime I hear you dropped 30. Good luck tonight.

oh my routine, well I am 53, retired, and get up about 10 am.. watch price is right, y&r, news, go out to do some shopping or whatever with the wife after lunch. home by 3ish, then back to tv, reading, spend lots of time on ps3 or psp playing 2k10 on basketball and golf tw10. then dinner, some tv, games with you all when in town, we have season tickets, or other games that may be on.. seems with the interest we have in you all creates interest in all the teams. like last night, we were pulling for cavs against utah..but didnt work.. oh well.then off to bed and play more basketball or whatever on ps3 and read some till 3 am or so.. when we dont have basketball, I like riding my bike. I have a vtx1300 that i love to ride.love to travel, and play with the grandchildren. may be boring to some but after a 23 year Air Force career, I am ready to just relax. Its a great life… You take care…

I have to get to the Ford Center earlier enough to watch you all warm up, and I have to be wearing Thunder blue somewhere. I have to stay until every player is off the court at the end of the game. Those are my game day rituals. Thanks for everything you do, for working so hard and making the game so much fun to watch. I'll be watching tonight.

Befor a Game I just Think Of Stuff That Gets Me Mad and Then I shoot Around .. i come to find out i play better when im mad

  • bfears

I really dont have a routine but before every game I read SLAM and listen to music. Then about an hour before the game I just lay in quietness and pray and visualize what I'm going to do in the game!

  • Nichole

Right before class starts I thank God for everything, listen to Lets go by trick daddy to get me pumped, clown around with my friends, and then im ready to learn. After class i speak to my grandma cause she always has jokes that she has to tell me(thats her habit), then its homework time. So yeah, thats my routine. I will be watching you guys tonight with my family. Continue to keep striving for the best and you will definitely see results. Go Thunder!

What's up Mr. Durant, i'm a Veterinary Technician and my morning ritual is when i first wake up, i always get out of my bed to thank the Lord all mighty for giving me my life, health and my strength, then i have to listen to 3 gospel songs, Get right Church, God is Not Dead, and GOD'S Got It. I do body stretches to get my body ready for a busy day at work. When i get into my car, i have to put on some R&B or rap music to get me crunk since i work about an hour away. That is how i get my day started.

Hi Kevin I was at the game last night when you guys played the Mavs. I live in Dallas, however I was cheering for you guys. Me and a couple of friends came to OKC back in November. Oh by the way you took a pic with my lil sis last night. Thanks a bunch, in fact we got to take several pics, you guys are truly professional good hearted peeps. My friends and I will be making more trips down to OKC to cheer you guys on. Keep up the good work. God Bless!

  • TempBoyBrandon

another great blog, KD.. very cool to hear your game day routine.. thanks so much for taking the time to sign things for fans and thanks for remaining humble and being a role model to the kids in OKC.. also, i love that you and some of the other guys go to chapel before every game.. i drove down to Dallas last night to see you guys play.. i had my KD1's and my Russell Westbrook jersey on and was cheering loud and proud for you guys in the middle of a bunch of Mavs fans.. it was cool though, i saw quite a few Thunder fans there, so i think lots of people drove down from OKC to support you guys.. great game, just a tough loss, but loved the effort.. take out the Heat tonight! now that i know that you sign things before each game, i'm gonna have to get to the game early one of these days!

  • Mike

    Kevin,
Me and my roommate are HUGE fans of you and your team. Unfortunately we can't make it to your home games because we live in Columbus but we bought tickets to go to your game in Indiana against the Pacers. Are you big on signing autographs for Thunder fans on the road?

  • alex_moore3
